Our annual Barnes Talent Show is Tuesday, May 14 (tomorrow) at 2:00 pm. Parents, if you are joining us you can preregister for this event at the link below. Anyone who preregisters will come to the front office tomorrow to check in and get their visitor badge. Anyone who doesn't preregister will need to do so with the QR code that will be posted on the door or use the front kiosk.

4th quarter honor roll assembly is tomorrow (May 14) for 3rd and 4th graders. We are trying something new for visitors to try and speed up the process of people signing in. If you would like to pre-register for this assembly tomorrow, click the link below. When you preregister, you will be able to come through the office to check in and get your visitor badge. If you don't preregister, you will have to register tomorrow when you get to the school through a QR code or through the front kiosk before you can come to the office to get a visitor sticker.

We would like to say thank you to The NED Show for teaching our students what it means to be a champion at school and in life. We would also like to thank the Barnes families who purchased yoyos. We raised nearly $1,000 which will be used to Pay It Forward so another school can see The NED Show. Way to go Blue Jays!

Weather Update May 6, 2024: Evening Activities Canceled
In collaboration with the National Weather Service, Mid-Del officials have made the decision to cancel all evening activities today out of an abundance of caution for our students, families, and staff. Mid-Del Technology Center has canceled evening classes. Latchkey and Boys & Girls Club programs have also been canceled for tonight.
We understand the importance of safety, and we want to ensure everyone remains safe during potentially inclement weather. Our top priority is always the well-being of our school community.
We will continue to monitor today's weather closely and will notify our families promptly if any changes occur to our procedures. Stay informed through the following channels:

Big applause for Mrs. Doonkeen's kindergarten class at Barnes Elementary!
Throughout the year, these little learners have been mastering the basics of reading, writing, and math with dedication and enthusiasm. This month, their learning journey took a wild turn as they dove into the world of zoo animals! From building their very own kindergarten zoo to becoming zookeepers, these young minds have been busy exploring, researching, and expressing their creativity through stories and poems about their favorite furry friends.
The excitement reached its peak as the zoo officially opened with the help of Dr. Cobb, Superintendent! The morning kicked off with an official ribbon cutting ceremony, setting the stage for a day filled with wonder and discovery. Guests were treated to presentations by the zookeepers, who shared the fascinating research they've conducted on each animal. Afterward, everyone had the chance to tour the zoo, soaking in the sights and sounds of their kindergarten-created habitat. And what's a zoo visit without a stop at the concession stand? Introducing Mr. Michael Becker as the incoming principal of Barnes Elementary starting from the upcoming school year. Mr. Becker brings with him a wealth of experience, having served as the principal of Del City Elementary for the past six years. Before his tenure at Del City Elementary, he held the position of principal at Townsend Elementary and previously served as an assistant principal at Epperly Heights Elementary. With thirty years of experience in education, all within Mid-Del Schools, Mr. Becker is a seasoned educator dedicated to fostering excellence. We bid a fond farewell to Dr. Tammy Roberson, the current principal of Barnes Elementary, who will be retiring at the end of this school year. #mdpurpose
