Hello Jet Families!

\r\n

\r\n

Happy Fall! It is hard to believe that our first quarter has already come to an end! Our students have been working SO HARD to make academic gains this year! We are so proud of their hard work!

\r\n

\r\n

With Fall comes cooler temps...especially in the morning. Make sure your kiddos are dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Students will go out for recess unless the weather is in our pre-cautionary zones. We want students to be as comfortable as possible when we are experiencing cooler weather.

\r\n

\r\n

As your principal, it is important to me that everyone who walks through our doors-students, teachers, parents, and families always feel welcomed! I strongly believe in open communication and a strong home and school connection. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or celebrations!

\r\n

\r\n

Respectfully,

\r\n

Mrs. Hunt

Meet our new Assistant Principal

\r\n

We are sad to announce that Mrs. Suzanna Bennett is no longer with us an assistant principal at MCE. She is now the head principal at Tinker Elementary, another Mid-Del school. While we are happy for her new journey, she will be extremely missed at MCE.

\r\n

We are excited to announce that Mrs. Amanda Bennett will take her place as our new assistant principal. Mrs. Bennett has been our Title I interventionist at MCE and we know that this transition will be smooth for her. She knows our MCE students and staff and is eager to begin this new journey. Congratulations Mrs. Bennett

School Policies and Handbook

\r\n

Student handbooks will be coming home this week. We just got them back from the print shop. There are a few polices that I would like to address that we want to make sure you are aware of and be sure to speak to your student about.

CELL PHONES

\r\n

We do understand that there are times students need their cell phones after school ( eg... walking home) to communicate with parents. Therefore, we do not want to ban them completely. However, while at school students can use their classroom phones or office phones if they need to speak with a parent. We will also communicate anything that needs to be communicated during the school day to parents.

\r\n

CELL PHONES MUST BE KEPT IN THE BACKPACK DURING THE SCHOOL DAY IF BROUGHT TO SCHOOL. THE FOLLOWING WILL BE THE PROTOCOL IF STUDENTS ARE CAUGHT WITH THEIR PHONES OUTSIDE OF THEIR BACKPACK DURING THE SCHOOL DAY (THIS IS NOT LIMITED TO DISMISSAL TIME UNLESS GIVEN PERMISSION TO USE).

\r\n

\r\n

1st offense: Student will be issued a warning and told to put phone away in their backpack

\r\n

2nd offense: Phone will be taken and returned at the end of the day to student ( we will do our best to communicate this to the parent)

\r\n

3rd offense: Phone will be taken and a parent/guardian must pick the phone up from the office

\r\n

4th offense: Student will not be allowed to bring the phone back to school or the phone must be checked in with the teacher or office in the morning and returned each day.

\r\n

Please understand that our goal is not to keep your child from having a phone at school, but to eliminate as many distractions as possible from the learning environment. Thank you for helping us with this expectation by speaking with your child about this protocol.

\r\n

Early Arrival

\r\n

All students not having breakfast will not be allowed to enter the building until 8:30am. If you are dropping your child off, please drop them off as close to 8:30am. We understand that some students ride the bus and are dropped off before 8:30am. The teachers contracted day does not begin until 8:30am and students are not supervised if they are outside waiting to come in. If your student does have to be dropped off a few minutes early or is a bus rider, please speak with them about lining up outside the front entrance doors and waiting until they are allowed in at 8:30am. We are having several students who are not following this protocol and sometimes becoming disruptive. If it continues, we will have to contact parents of students who are being disruptive and they will not be allowed to be dropped off until 8:30am. It is okay for our students to be social and mingle with friends. We just want them to do this in an orderly manner.

NO pokemon cards or toys at school

\r\n

As much as our students love Pokemon Cards they have become a disruption to the learning environment over the past few weeks. Student trading cards and having disagreement over cards are a couple of the problems we are encountering. Please have your students keep these cards at home to eliminate this distraction. We appreciate your efforts to help us in resolving this matter.

\r\n

NOTE:

\r\n

THERE MAY BE SPECIAL DAYS WHERE YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER WILL PERMIT HIM/HER TO BRING A SPECIAL TOY FOR SHOW AND TELL OR SOMETHING ELSE. YOU SHOULD RECEIVE NOTIFICATION FOR TIMES SUCH AS THESE.

\r\n

\r\n

THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE SPORTS BALLS THAT STUDENTS BRING FOR RECESS (THOSE ARE STILL PERMITTED)
