Pleasant Hill's 3rd, 4th and 5th graders reveled in a reading of the Oklahoma Sequoyah Children's Book Award Nominee Sprouting Wings: The True Story of James Herman Banning, the First African American Pilot to Fly Across the United States by Louisa Jaggar and Shari Becker.  On Thursday, February 16th, actor Jeantique Oriol embodied the pilot in a riveting performance and vibrant question and answer session with Pleasant Hill students after the account. James Herman Banning was an Oklahoma native who fulfilled his dreams of becoming a pilot and aspiring goals to fly transcontinental from California to New York. His inspirational story is beautifully captured in this biography. We thank The Greatest Story Never Told.org for bringing this living history experience to our school!
