5th grade

On February 22nd, Ms. Boyd's 5th graders presented their BHM projects honoring a host of Black Americans who changed our country and the world. Each student chose an individual, conducted research, and created a breakfast cereal celebrating their honoree. Students articulated inspirational speeches, sharing pivotal moments in history and why others should learn more about their person. Whitney Houston, Dr. Mae Jemison, Aaron Douglas, Jackie Robinson, Jim Thorpe, Bessie Coleman, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Rosa Parks, and Lois Jones were among those distinguished Black Americans recognized. The 5th Graders created an original cereal name, depicted the famous figure likeness on the cover, creatively captured their unique character traits through nutritional facts, and summarized notable facts to keep audience members yearning for more.
