little library crew

Forest Park will soon have a Little Library located outside the south gate of Pleasant Hill Elementary School. Community members will be able to donate books to fill the box and residents can take a book from the box for free. It is a fantastic way to reuse and recycle books and keep the reading chain going from neighbor to neighbor!

Carmen McBride of the Forest Park Neighborhood Association coordinated this literacy-affirming project for the township of Forest Park and its nestled elementary school, Pleasant Hill.

The mural on the box was designed by local artist and Forest Park resident Erin Latham, PhD, of the Oklahoma Arts Council, Director of Art in Public Places. See her artwork here: www.erinlatham.com

Pleasant Hill Student Council members Zion Abraham, Jordan Stevenson, Kaydence James, Sammy Wallace, III, and sister Julia Wallace, Tatum Burkhalter and brother Cru Burkhalter, along with their Student Council Sponsor, teacher Krischev Holloway, stayed after school on May 8th to collaborate with Erin. They painted the box using bright, bold colors, added their own touches, and brought the design to life.
