๐ Our TSA students recently attended the annual Fall Leadership Conference for Technology Students Association, where they gained valuable insights into Oklahomaโs job markets, colleges, and career opportunities! ๐ They also put their problem-solving skills to the test in a STEM workshop by solving a thrilling mock murder case ๐. Weโre so proud of our students for exploring new paths in tech and building valuable skills for their future! #TSALeaders #CareerReady #STEM

๐ Native American Heritage Month - Person of the Day ๐
Today, we celebrate the legendary Jim Thorpe (Sac and Fox Nation), a multi-talented athlete who rose to global fame. Brought up in Oklahoma under the native name Wa-Tho-Huk, meaning โBright Path,โ Thorpe competed at the highest levels across multiple sports well into the late 1920s.
๐ Thorpe won gold in the pentathlon and decathlon at the 1912 Olympics, despite competing with mismatched shoes he found in the trash after his were stolen. His grit and talent helped him overcome the odds, and he made history that day.
โพ Thorpe continued to shine in professional sports, playing baseball, basketball, and excelling as one of the first stars of professional American football. With the Canton Bulldogs, who claimed the title of "world champions" in 1916, 1917, and 1919, Thorpe was instrumental in founding the National Football League (NFL) and served as its first president in 1920.
๐ After an athletic career that lasted into his 40s, Thorpe turned to Hollywood, acting in over 50 films, where he often portrayed Native American roles. His legacy endures as a symbol of resilience, athleticism, and achievement across generations.
Join us in honoring Jim Thorpe, whose "Bright Path" continues to inspire!

๐ฃ Weโre honored to welcome Courtney John, Adrian Jones, and Michaela Richbourg from the Chickasaw Nation today! Theyโre here to teach our students how to play the traditional game of stickball. The Chickasaw Nation partners with schools bringing Native American history and culture to life through interactive experiences like this one. ๐
About Stickball: Often called the "little brother of war," stickball is one of the oldest sports in North America, historically used to resolve disputes, build community, and sharpen physical skills. Players use handcrafted sticks with netted hoops on the ends to catch and throw a small ball, aiming to score points by hitting a target on the opponentโs goalpost. This challenging game teaches coordination, teamwork, and resilience, connecting generations through shared tradition.
Thank you to the Chickasaw Nation for helping our students learn more about this incredible heritage! #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #chickasaw

๐ Native American Heritage Month: Person of the Day ๐
Today we honor Deb Haaland of the Laguna Pueblo, a groundbreaking leader and the first Native American to serve as a U.S. Cabinet Secretary. Appointed as the Secretary of the Interior, Haaland is a passionate advocate for environmental justice, tribal rights, and sustainable land management. Her historic appointment represents a milestone for Native representation and her dedication to protecting natural resources benefits all communities.
As a powerful voice for Native peoples and the environment, Deb Haaland continues to inspire with her commitment to justice, stewardship, and unity.

๐จ Game Update ๐จ

๐ Native American Heritage Month: Person of the Day ๐
Today, we celebrate John Bennett Herrington, a proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and the first enrolled member of a Native American tribe to venture into space! ๐
In 2002, as a NASA astronaut and U.S. Naval Aviator, he made history, taking with him the Chickasaw Nation flag on his 13-day journey to space. During the mission Herrington performed three spacewalks, totaling 19 hours and 55 minutes. These spacewalks are commemorated on the reverse of the 2019 Sacagawea dollar coin Herringtonโs achievements inspire us to reach for the stars while honoring our roots! ๐๐ชถ #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #ProudToBeChickasaw

๐ข Be on the lookout! ๐ข Federal Impact Aid survey forms are coming home with your student on bright green paper this year! This important survey helps local districts identify federally connected students and determine eligibility for financial assistance, which supports our school by offsetting lost revenue due to federal properties being exempt from local property taxes.
Hereโs what to know:
Purpose: The survey assists districts impacted by federal tax-exempt properties.
How it works: It includes questions about federally connected families, such as those in federal housing, on federal property, or with military parents.
How itโs used: The Department of Education uses this info to reimburse districts, with assistance based on the number of federally connected students.
What to do: Surveys go home with students; if you donโt receive one, let us know, and weโll send another your way! Complete the form and send back to school with your student!
Thank you for helping support our school! ๐๐
