We’re so proud to share that Tavion McGuire chose Mr. Hawkins! 🎉👏

💊 One Pill Can Kill 💛

Join us on Thursday, October 30th at 5:30 PM as we welcome Moms for Fentanyl Awareness Oklahoma to Midwest City Middle School.

These courageous mothers have come together after experiencing the devastating loss of their children to fentanyl poisoning. Their mission is simple but urgent:
to educate and protect our youth by spreading awareness about the deadly dangers of fentanyl—a poison that is taking far too many young lives.

🚨 Did You Know?
• Fentanyl is involved in the majority of teen overdose deaths in the U.S.
• Just one pill can contain a lethal dose.
• Many teens think they’re taking something safe — but one mistake can be fatal.

We invite our families, students, and community members to come listen, learn, and be part of the movement to save lives. Together, we can make a difference. 🖤💛

"Viva el Baile! Honoring Culture Through Dance" This month, our classes have taken a deep and meaningful dive into Hispanic Heritage and its rich contributions to the world of dance. We’ve explored not just movement, but the history, culture, and voices behind the steps — connecting our practice with purpose. Each class selected a Hispanic dance pioneer to research and reflect on. Through that, we learned about: José Limón, a trailblazer in modern dance who used movement to express emotion and humanity. Chita Rivera, a Broadway legend who broke barriers and brought Latinx excellence to the stage. How West Side Story sparked conversations about identity, immigration, and social justice through dance and storytelling. We didn’t stop at names — we celebrated movement itself: The fierce passion of Flamenco The rhythm and joy of Cha Cha The rich cultural storytelling of Folklórico The community and energy of Cumbia We also discovered just how beautifully diverse our local dance community in OKC is — from traditional Latin styles to contemporary fusion, it’s a city full of rhythm, resilience, and representation. More than anything, we’ve learned that dance is more than just steps — it’s heritage, history, and heart. It’s a language that connects us all. These Dancers Are The Bomb: 6th Grade: Sophie brings her full energy and heart to every class, always engaged, enthusiastic, and eager to grow. She consistently shares thoughtful ideas while also showing respect and support for her peers. Sophie lights up the room with her kindness, positivity, and spirit of acceptance. Her presence makes our dance community stronger and more connected each day. We’re so proud of you, Sophie—keep shining! 7th Grade: Paisley is a remarkable individual whose kindness shines in every interaction. A true perfectionist in the best way, she brings incredible attention to detail and a passionate drive to master every new skill and dance our class takes on. With grit, grace, and an open heart, Paisley uplifts those around her, making her not only a dedicated student but also a cherished friend to all. 8th Grade: Cadyn De Sena is one of our outstanding Student Choreographers at MCMS, known for leading with grace, poise, and an undeniable passion for dance. She enters every class eager to learn, ready to contribute, and always open to discovering something new. Cadyn’s vibrant energy and zest for life shine through in every movement, and she generously shares that joy with those around her. Her creativity and leadership will be on full display in our upcoming Holiday Show, where she will debut her original choreography. Mic Drop from Ms. T: September has been a month of change, growth, and learning to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. We've had some truly beautiful conversations—diving deep into the history of dance and what it means to each of us. We’ve come to realize that dance is all around us, and that we are all dancers—no matter where we are on our journey. I’ve witnessed amazing growth in so many of you. Your dedication, vulnerability, and willingness to show up has been inspiring. Remember: honor yourself every day. If all you have is 10%, show up and give that 10%. That effort matters. We notice it, we see you, we hear you and we love you. We have goals, we have passion, and most importantly—we have each other. Let’s keep moving, growing, and dancing with purpose.

📸 DANCE CLASS MEDIA DAY – TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH 📸

Photos will be taken during regular dance classes on Tuesday, October 14th!

Please have your dancer come to school wearing all black and with their hair clean and photo-ready.

This is a FREE event, and we are so grateful to have a professional photographer donating their time to help celebrate our dancers!

Each student will have:

📷 An individual photo taken

🩰 A group photo with their dance class

We will also have a costume rack available if dancers want to pick something fun to wear for their solo photo — otherwise, photos will be taken in their all-black outfits.

⚠️ Please note: There will be no makeup day for absences, as this is the only day the photographer is available.

Let’s celebrate our dancers' talent and hard work — we can’t wait to capture these special moments!
