After our team drove throughout the district this morning, we are ready to be back in school. Welcome back!

The roads aren't perfect. There are still some slick spots in neighborhoods, along with a few intersections near Barnes, Schwartz, and Pleasant Hill Elementary. We encourage families to plan for extra time getting their students to school. Bus routes may run a little more slowly in these areas as well.

We will ask schools to be mindful of these conditions when marking students tardy at the beginning of the school day.

We understand that parents have the ultimate responsibility to decide what's safe for your child. Our school parking lots and sidewalks have been cleared, and we will have warm meals. If you can't get out of your neighborhood, please call your child's absence into their school.

An important message from Dr. Cobb.

Good afternoon -

We have been out driving roads and are seeing some improvement. Of course, better doesn't mean great. The forecast shows temperatures hovering around the freezing mark overnight. Right now, I'm 50/50 on being in school tomorrow. The final decision will be made when my team and I get up early in the morning and test roads in different parts of the district. Our decision will be made by 5:00 am, at which point we will send out messages, either way.

I know that leaves our families and staff in limbo, and I'm sorry for that, but I never take the responsibility of this decision lightly. As much as I'd love to have the right answer right now, I'm going to ask for your patience. The goal is always to teach our students and be safe doing it.

With that in mind, stay warm and safe. Hopefully, we'll see you tomorrow.

Mid-Del Families,

Due to continued hazardous road conditions, Mid-Del Schools will be CLOSED on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. This will be a traditional snow day, and no classes will be held. Mid-Del Technology Center daytime classes are canceled.

While progress has been made to clear some streets across our communities, there are still areas that remain unsafe for buses, student drivers, and families. As always, the safety of our students and staff guides every decision we make.

Please continue to stay warm and safe. We appreciate your patience and understanding. ❄️

Congrats to our Support Staff Member of the Year, Mrs. Margaret 🎉💙💛 Mrs. Margaret is our incredible cafeteria supervisor and she truly is amazing. She brings care, dedication, and a positive spirit to our school each and every day 😊🍎 Thank you, Mrs. Margaret, for all that you do for our school. This honor is so well deserved 🌟👏

It’s no secret that Accelerated Reader is HUGE at Schwartz, and our students absolutely LOVE earning AR points 📚⭐️ Unfortunately, earning those points doesn’t always come easily for all of our students. After listening to a parent during a parent-teacher conference, Mrs. Combs truly understood the NEED for a more inclusive library 💙. She began by purchasing dyslexia-friendly books for her classroom library, but she felt a tug in her heart to do more for ALL of our students—so she wrote a grant ✨📝. Thanks to our wonderful foundation, Mrs. Combs’s Big Idea Grant was funded 🙌🎉, and now our library will have plenty of books that are both accessible and enjoyable for ALL of our readers 📖💛. A huge thank you to the Mid-Del Public Schools Foundation and community donors for supporting and funding grants like this that make a meaningful difference for our students! 💙📚 #mdpurpose

Our 4th and 5th graders are piloting a brand new science curriculum called OpenSciEd and they absolutely LOVE it! 🔬✨ Today, 4th grade students tested how shaking pennies could change their temperature. They went wild when the thermometer climbed past 100 degrees! 🌡️🔥 The best part? This curriculum encourages curiosity. Students are asking “I wonder why?” and “How does that work?” — and then jumping right into hands-on investigations to find out. 🧪💡 Science is alive and exciting in our classrooms! 🙌

How to become a Substitute with Mid-Del Schools
BLITZ 2025 was a HUGE hit!

In 2014, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. King began the beloved Blitz tradition. Each year, before school starts, they set out to visit every student’s home, introducing themselves to the families they’ll be serving.

After teaching one year with the 3rd grade team, Mrs. Stamps saw just how powerful this tradition could be. When she joined the 4th and 5th-grade team in 2024, she asked her fellow teachers if they’d like to start Blitzing too—and of course, they said YES!

Fast forward to today: Blitz has grown in a big way. Between first, third, fourth, and fifth grade, more than eighty families were greeted by their teachers today. Students love Blitz because it’s “super cool” when their teacher shows up at their house—and they especially love showing off their pets!

Blitz is just one more way our teachers are building strong connections with students and families before the first-day bell rings.
