Women’s History Month Spotlight: The 588th Night Bomber Regiment – The "Night Witches" ✈️🔥 During World War II, an all-female squadron of Soviet pilots struck fear into the hearts of the enemy. Known as the 588th Night Bomber Regiment, these fearless women flew stealthy nighttime bombing raids against German forces. The Nazis were so terrified of them that they gave them the nickname "Night Witches." Flying outdated, open-cockpit biplanes, these women braved freezing temperatures, gunfire, and dangerous missions—often turning off their engines to glide silently before dropping bombs. Despite the odds, they completed over 30,000 missions and became some of the most highly decorated pilots of the war. The 588th Regiment is a powerful reminder that women have always had the strength, skill, and courage to shape history. This Women’s History Month, we celebrate their legacy and honor the incredible contributions of women in aviation and beyond! 🚀✨ Follow the link to learn more! https://youtu.be/_viwvpx0dqg #WomensHistoryMonth #NightWitches #FearlessWomen #AviationHistory

🌟 Black History Month Person of the Day: Josephine Baker 🌟 More than just a world-famous entertainer, Josephine Baker (1906–1975) was a trailblazer, civil rights activist, and war hero. 🌟💃 Born in St. Louis, Baker rose to fame in the 1920s as a dancer, singer, and actress, captivating audiences in Paris with her unique style and talent. She became the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture, Siren of the Tropics (1927). 🎬✨ But Baker’s impact went far beyond the stage. During World War II, she worked as a spy for the French Resistance, using her celebrity status to pass on secret messages hidden in her sheet music and costumes. After the war, she was awarded the prestigious Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honor by the French government. 🇫🇷🎖️ Back in the United States, Baker refused to perform for segregated audiences and became a prominent voice in the civil rights movement. In 1963, she was the only official female speaker at the historic March on Washington, standing alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ✊🏾🕊️ Josephine Baker’s life was a testament to courage, resilience, and the power of using one’s platform for change. ❤️ Learn more about her incredible story here: https://youtu.be/elkZnApOeUQ?si=2D2J_tbamsx6USEe #BlackHistoryMonth #PersonOfTheDay #JosephineBaker #Trailblazer #CivilRightsHero

✨ Black History Month Person of the Day: Lewis Howard Latimer ✨ Did you know the lightbulb as we know it wouldn’t exist without Lewis Howard Latimer? 💡 While Thomas Edison is famous for inventing the lightbulb, it was Latimer’s brilliant mind that made it practical and affordable. Born in 1848 to formerly enslaved parents, Latimer became a self-taught draftsman and inventor. In 1881, he patented a revolutionary carbon filament for lightbulbs, replacing the fragile paper filaments originally used. His innovation extended the life of lightbulbs and made electric lighting accessible to more homes. But Latimer didn’t stop there! He also worked with Alexander Graham Bell, helping draft the patent for the telephone. 📞 His contributions to modern technology are often overlooked but remain essential to the world we live in today. 💪🏽 Inventor. Wednesday, February 19, 2025 Good afternoon Mid-Del - I hope you've all been able to stay safe and warm these last couple of days. Things are looking up. We aren't supposed to get any more precipitation, and tomorrow morning's wind chill should only dip down to negative five! Yeah, that's pretty bad still. The roads are still sheets of ice. Our parking lots and sidewalks are a mess. Hopefully tomorrow, we will have a chance to start clearing some of the slick areas. Because of all of this, we will have another Remote Learning Day tomorrow, February 20, 2025. Hopefully (fingers crossed) we will be able to be in school Friday. Until then, stay inside if there's any way you can. Don't take any unnecessary risks. We'll get back to teaching and learning soon enough. Sincerely, Dr. Rick Cobb

🖤✊ Black History Month: Person of the Day – Garrett Morgan ✊🖤 Imagine driving through an intersection without a traffic light! 🚦 Thanks to Garrett Morgan, we don’t have to. Born in 1877, Morgan was a brilliant inventor whose creations continue to impact our daily lives. 🔴 Traffic Light Pioneer – After witnessing a severe car accident, Morgan patented one of the first three-position traffic signals, adding the yellow light to improve road safety. His design was eventually sold to General Electric and became a foundation for modern traffic signals! 🦺 Life-Saving Gas Mask – Morgan also invented a safety hood that protected firefighters and rescue workers from smoke and harmful gases. This invention saved lives and was even used to help rescue workers during the 1916 Cleveland Tunnel Disaster. A self-made businessman and advocate for Black entrepreneurship, Morgan’s legacy is one of innovation, perseverance, and life-changing contributions. 💡 Fun Fact: He was also the first Black man in Cleveland to own a car! 🚗 📲 Follow the link to learn more about Garrett Morgan and his incredible impact on the world! https://youtu.be/6Pw5t-eyDRY #BlackHistoryMonth #GarrettMorgan #Innovation #Trailblazer
