Black History Month Person of the Day: Gordon Parks Today, we celebrate Gordon Parks, a visionary photographer, filmmaker, and writer whose work captured the essence of the African American experience. As the first Black staff photographer for Life magazine, Parks used his camera as a tool for social change, documenting poverty, racism, and the civil rights movement with striking and emotional imagery. Beyond photography, Parks made history as the first Black director of a major Hollywood film with Shaft (1971), helping to shape the Blaxploitation genre. His storytelling extended to literature as well, with books like The Learning Tree, which he later adapted into a film—becoming the first African American to direct a film for a major studio. Through his art, Gordon Parks gave a voice to the unheard and shined a light on the injustices of his time. His legacy continues to inspire photographers, filmmakers, and activists today. #BlackHistoryMonth #GordonParks #PhotographyForChange #CivilRights #ArtAsActivism

🤒🤧 When Should Your Child Stay Home from School? 🏠📚 We understand that it can be tough to decide if your child should stay home from school. To help, here are some guidelines: Keep Your Child Home If They Have: 🌡️ Fever above 100°F: Must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning. 👄 Sore Throat or Tonsillitis: If diagnosed with Strep Throat, they can return 24 hours after antibiotics begin. 🔴 Rash/Spots: Wait for doctor clearance or 24 hours after treatment for ringworm, scabies, or impetigo (affected area must be covered). 😷 Bad Cough/Cold Symptoms: Keep home until the cough improves and they feel better. 👁️ Eye Discharge (Pink Eye): Return 24 hours after treatment begins and symptoms improve. 🤢 Vomiting/Diarrhea: Wait 24 hours after the last episode without medication before returning. Healthy Tips for Families: ✔️ Avoid saying, "Try to make it and call me if you feel bad." Instead, try: "You’ve been fine for 24 hours, let’s have breakfast, and you’ll feel great at school!" ✔️ Encourage positivity and monitor symptoms carefully. When It’s OK to Attend School: 🌬️ Mild cold symptoms without a fever. 🌼 Allergic conjunctivitis diagnosed by a doctor. 💪 Vague aches, pains, or fatigue. 🩹 Diagnosed non-contagious skin conditions.
