The Board of Education named Ms. Shakari Dotson as Assistant Principal for Midwest City Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year during the Special Board of Education meeting today. Shakari was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She pursued an undergraduate education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Shakari received her Master’s in Educational Administration Curriculum and Supervision from the University of Oklahoma. Her education journey began with Teach for America, leading her to Oklahoma City, where she started her teaching career at Millwood Middle School, teaching 7th-grade math. Over the past seven years, Shakari has taught science, honors math, and Algebra 1. In addition to teaching, she has been actively involved in enhancing students’ schooling through programs such as Girl Scouts and robotics and coordinating a high-impact in-school tutoring program— Ignite, to make a significant impact within the school community. Shakari enjoys spending quality time with my family outside of school, exploring her love for baking and the great outdoors. She has been happily married to her husband, Gabriel, for four years, and they share a 13-month-old son, Joel. Shakari is thrilled about the opportunity to serve the staff, students, and the community at Midwest City Middle School, and she is eager to contribute to the school's continued success. Please help us welcome Ms. Dotson!

The summer reading program through the Metropolitan Library starts June 1st! Reading regularly is a great way to help prevent learning loss over the summer. 📖✨ It's FREE to sign up, either in person at the library or online. One of the many great things about the Metropolitan Library System is that they partner with the Pioneer Library System. If you have a card from one, you can get a card from the other too! 📚🤝 Stay tuned to find out what our staff is reading this summer and share with us what you're reading! 📖💬 https://www.metrolibrary.org/summerreading #LetsGoBombers #MetropolitanLibrary #PioneerLibrary #ReadingChallenge #PreventLearningLoss
