The study of Science and Technology has long been an important aspect of the educational system. We at Mid-Del Schools pride ourselves on our ability to grow our students’ ability to understand and appreciate the world around through the expanding of both their scientific knowledge and skill. At Mid-Del, science is more than content knowledge. It is a process for building the learner’s ability to make observations on the world around them, develop models of thinking about the world, and determine the best ways to gather evidence to explore and reconfigure that thinking if need be.

Elementary Students are encouraged to explore and build their knowledge of the world through hands-on activities that engage and develop their skills of scientific inquiry. These Sensemaking opportunities help students to apply the skills they are learning in other subjects such as Reading and Math in real world application. Our goal at this level is to take advantage of the students’ natural curiosity to build both a solid foundational knowledge of scientific ideas and principles and a fundamental skill set centered on understanding science as a process for learning about our world.

Our Secondary Students explore the accruing knowledge of the scientific community while also incorporating aspects of their personal experiences into their growth. We continue to concentrate on developing their ability to think scientifically while focusing on preparing them for future careers in whatever path they choose. This includes our numerous Advanced Placement Courses in science as well as our numerous partnerships with organizations in our community such as Tinker Air Force Base and Northrup Grumman. Our goal for our secondary science students is that they leave Mid-Del Schools with a depth of knowledge in the Biological, Physical, and Earth and Space Sciences as well as a sense of community and a desire to learn.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

As STEM Educators we have encouraged our students to participate in numerous STEM-based clubs and teams. We have students compete all over the state in both Botball and Junior Botball Challenge, an educational robotics program that focuses on engaging in team-oriented robotics competitions, and CyberPatriots, the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future. We have also partnered with several organizations in bringing STEM based opportunities to Mid-Del students. These endeavors have helped numerous Mid-Del Students on their pathways towards bright futures in STEM careers!
